There is no indication near the tempo to swing it but some blues pieces don`t indicate to swing either and it is understood that you have to swing it. Anyone knows? I am not familiar with "Boogaloo" pieces. Thanks.

I have found a website where I can write to the composer directly. The site forwards my mail to him and he can choose to reply. Hopefull he will. I will keep you all posted.

Can you believe it, I actually got a reply from Mr.McLean himself! He said straight fast eighths. No swing. The reason I got confused was because one of colleagues who is an excellent teacher by the way, sent her student in for an exam. She played"Bayou Boogaloo" swinging the eighths and got superiors. She played it really well too. Probably there is no wrong or right....maybe? It sounds good when you swing it but I am going to follow the composer`s wish. Pity we can`t get direct replies from Classical composers!

I was not familiar with boogaloo but I listened to several examples on youtube.

In some ways, youtube IS almost as good as getting answers from the composers! What an incredible resource.

At any rate, eighths are not swung as with a jazz or blues style. They are quite close to even in terms of length; to my ears though they are subtly swung in terms of volume.
